JAMES A MEGER ~ Artist
From Edina, MN, James is know for his dramatic wildlife depictions
James received his bachelors degree in fine arts in 1964 and then served in Vietnam.
James attended graduate school at the University of Minnesota and then taught art from 1973 to 1979. During this time he consulted with his mentor, artist Les Kouba.
In 1979 James resigned from teaching. His first limited edition print "Wildside" was released and quickly sold out.
It was also announced in December of 1979 that James had won the 1980 Minnesota Duck Stamp print which was a turning point in his career.
Since 1982, he has included hidden elements in his paintings. The curious and keen observers need to "seek out" the hidden images. From this, Meger has been known as the artist who paints "More than Meets the Eye."
James has been a huge supporter of Pheasants Forever helping chapters raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for wildlife conservation through his artwork across the country.
James has been Pheasants Forever & Quail Forever’s Print of the Year artist multiple times since 1982, and he annually has artwork in the Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever banquet packages.
Since the late mid 90’s, James has been attending the annual State Habitat Meeting in NE where he will remark prints for chapters and each year he donates a print or two to the NE state banquet.
For his generous contributions to the state of Nebraska, James received Pheasants Forever’s special recognition award at the State Habitat Meeting in February 2008.
