Happy New Year – start thinking habitat! We’ve just rolled over into the New Year and are in the middle of winter, but what a great time to start thinking about habitat. If you are one of those folks that have seen a bit more winter than you would care to……ice, snow, cold temps…….and are worried about how the birds are surviving it. Now is the time to make sure you are prepared for next winter. By using a Pheasants Forever winter cover/food plot mix, you can be prepared for the toughest conditions winter has to offer and provide the best possible winter habitat. Think about how much better off you would be this winter if you had put in a small Nebraska Mix plot. When using a PF winter cover mix, you’ll be planting a mix that is designed to reproduce the type of cover that you would find from a good cattail stand. The side benefit is that this mixture also contains the food with the winter cover. In other words, the kitchen is right next to the bedroom. A 25-pound bag of Nebraska Mix sells for just $40 per bag (Including delivery) and will plant about 4 acres of habitat. You can order this and other great wildlife mixtures right off of this website. Make sure you’re prepared for next winter and anything that Mother nature has to throw at us with a PF winter cover/food plot. You’ll be glad you did.
This
Nebraska Mix plot is functioning exactly as
it is supposed to after receiving 1” of ice
followed by a blizzard. The area lodged and
created the type of winter cover you would
find from a good cattail stand
Upon closer examination in the Nebraska Mix plot, the pheasants and quail in the area had all moved into this cover and were riding out the storm in great winter cover with a food source readily available to them
