Election Day is Tuesday, November 7th and Pheasants Forever would like to encourage all hunters and conservation minded individuals to use their right to vote…and vote for conservation. This election is one of the most important in a number of years. The representatives we all send to Lincoln and to Washington DC will be making decisions that will impact wildlife habitat and hunting for years to come. The 2007 Farm Bill, the legislation that authorizes the Conservation Reserve Program and several other wildlife habitat programs, will be written and voted on by the congress we are going to be electing on Tuesday. This next Farm Bill will determine the future direction of the CRP and pheasant and quail populations for at least the next five years. When you go into the voting booth on Tuesday please make sure that you vote for a candidate that supports sound Farm Bill conservation practices like CRP, the Wetlands Reserve Program, and a number of other programs that help PF and QF chapters put more and better habitat on the ground here in Nebraska. The representatives we send to Lincoln will also be deciding important issues that will have an effect on wildlife habitat and hunting in Nebraska. To help you make your voting decision the Nebraska League of Conservation Voters, a bi-partisan group of Nebraska individuals and organizations, has asked all of the candidates running for a seat in the Nebraska Legislature a number of questions related to conservation and hunting issues that may be presented to the legislature. All of the answers submitted back from the candidates are available on at www.nlcv.org website. Just click on the link for the “Fall 2006 Voter’s Guide.” Our elected officials can create or destroy wildlife habitat with a single vote and stroke of a pen. Please be sure to vote on Tuesday, November 7th and remember or vote for conservation.
