Lincoln Area Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever chapters have partnered with Norris Public High School FFA to restore a 65 acre prairie adjacent to the school. “This project isn’t just a great habitat project, it’s an opportunity for the FFA students to learn about wildlife habitat, conservation programs, and wildlife management” explained Ken Hesser Cornhusker PF board member and Husker Covey QF Habitat Chairman. This project has attracted many partners in addition to PF, QF, and the Norris FFA. “The Nebraska Game & Parks Commission, Star Seed, Country Side Coop, and Well’s Implement are all supporting this project as well” Hesser continued. The area will eventually have native habitats restored for pheasants, quail, and all grassland wildlife. After several months of planning, the 65 acres were planted this spring. The Norris FFA is also using this prairie restoration as a chapter project and hope submit it for state and national recognition. In fact several of the Norris FFA students presented the plans for this project at Pheasant Fest in Des Moines, Iowa this past January. This project is a perfect example of how PF and QF are using innovative partnerships to deliver their habitat and conservation mission.
