 Found in dry to moist soils in sites of mild disturbance such as prairie, meadows, roadside. This native forb is more common in grazed praireis and dry patures. Native Americans prepared the roots in a tea for curing colds. Early settlers used the plant as a stimulant and a diuretic. From the petals, a yellow dye can be made.
