This native can be found in dry soils, disturbed or overgrazed patures, roadsides, or railways.  American Indians used gumweed extracts to treat asthma, bronchitis, and skin rash.  It is sometimes used in recent treatments for whooping cough, asthma, and poison ivy rashes.
