Prairie Hills PF
January - 2009

| | The Prairie Hills chapter in Kearney was formed in 1997. Andy was one of the original founders of the chapter after being involved with a chapter in the neigboring town of Holdrege. Since forming in 1997, the Prairie Hills Chapter of Pheasants Forever has conducted 11 Youth Mentor Hunt events for 211 kids in the Buffalo County Area. Andy was instrumental in planning and developing the chapters first Youth Mentor Hunt. Andy and his wife Nevabelle annualy hosted the chapters Youth Mentor Hunt on their own property as they believed in the importance of "passing on" the hunting heritage to the next generation. Since helping form the chapter in 1997, Andys chapter has spent over $300,000 on 663 habitat projects (54,721 total acres). In 2008, the chapter spent over $50,000 and worked on projects that benefited over 2,500 acres. Andys chapter supports a number of state-wide habitat programs including Corners For Wildlife, CRP-MAP, Legislative Action Fund, and the State Habitat Raffle. These programs benefit landowners and wildlife alike each year and would not be possible without the chapter’s support! Andy is also responsible for improving the chapters fundraising efficiency. Andy believed that every business in Kearney, NE should be supporting Pheasants Forever as everyone stands to benefit from conservation. With that belief, Andy has helped significantly increase the number of chapter sponsors that support the Prairie Hills chapter. Increasing chapter sponsors has helped the chapter spend more money on habitat and youth education. |
Andy resides in Kearney with his wife Nevabelle. Andy is now 83 years old, and he and Nevabelle continue to support their chapter each and every year. Nevabelle continues to give the invocation at the chapter’s annual banquet, and Andy supports the chapter in any way he can. While Andy may not be as involved as he used to be, Andy continues to inspire his chapter to put more habtiat in the gound. Andys long time dedication to Pheasants Forever truly make him a Nebraska Pheasants Forever Hero!
